Telecommunications infrastructure
Telecommunications Network Infrastructure
Pit-and-pipe, lead-ins and building pathways, fibre cable hauling and jointing, with the excavation, service exposure and reinstatement around them. Delivered as one work package or by discipline, to the issued design.

- Where it fits
- From the issued design to a proved, recorded pathway with cable installed, ready for the network owner’s next stage.
- Typically engaged by
- Principal contractors, builders and developers, and network delivery contractors.
Scope
What the scope covers
Built to the issued design and the network owner’s requirements for the project, from set-out to a proved, recorded pathway with cable installed.
Site survey and constructability
Route and site survey, locating and constructability input before construction proceeds.
Pit-and-pipe and lead-ins
Shared pit-and-pipe networks and lead-in conduits from the boundary to the building entry point.
Building pathways
Building entry, riser and common-area pathways on multi-dwelling buildings.
Cable hauling and installation
Cable hauled through proved pathways and installed, secured and labelled to the specification.
Jointing and splicing
Fibre joints made in closures, with splice records, where the scope includes it.
Civils and reinstatement
Excavation, vacuum exposure of crossings and surface reinstatement for every pathway.
Delivery
From issued design to a ready pathway
The order the work runs on site. Services are located and exposed before any machine excavation.
- Step 1
Site information
Survey and locating findings supplied to the principal and the responsible designer before construction.
- Step 2
Build
Pit-and-pipe, lead-ins and pathways constructed to the issued design, with services exposed first.
- Step 3
Record
Depths, routes, pit positions and photos captured for the as-built package.
- Step 4
Ready for the next stage
Pathways proved clear and documented for the network owner’s installers.
Interfaces and records
Coordination, site constraints and handover records
What KZ COM coordinates with the other parties on the job, the constraints planned for before mobilising, and the records supplied at handover.
Delivery interfaces
- Designer and network owner
- Design rules, the issued design and the as-built requirements.
- Builder or principal
- Programme, site rules, access and work windows.
- Other asset owners
- Crossings exposed and protected to each owner’s requirements.
- Network installers
- Pathways proved and documented before their stage.
Site constraints planned for
- Existing services at crossings
- Surfaces to open and reinstate
- Driveway and pedestrian access
- Inspection and handover dates
Records supplied
- Pit positions and levels
- Conduit routes and depths
- Pathway proving results
- Splice records, where in scope
- Photo record for as-builts
Health, safety & quality
Safety and quality on this scope
The controls and checks that matter most on this work.
Underground services
Before You Dig Australia (BYDA) information reviewed, services located and marked, and crossings exposed by vacuum excavation or by hand before machine excavation.
Site-specific SWMS
Where the scope includes high-risk construction work, such as trenching, work near underground services or beside traffic, the Safe Work Method Statement is reviewed with the crew before work starts.
Inspection points
Depths, pit levels, conduit continuity and surface finish checked during and at the end of the work.
Handover records
Depths, routes, pit positions and photos captured as the work goes in, for the as-built package.
For estimators
Information needed to price it
- The site address or development name
- Design drawings, or where the design is up to
- Number of lots, dwellings or premises
- Programme dates, including inspections
- Which parts of the scope you need KZ COM for
Scope and responsibilities
- On nbn new developments, developer-built pit and pipe passes to nbn at practical completion, so it is built to nbn’s requirements for that development (nbn: Pit and pipe (opens in a new tab)).
- Street cable, premises connection, testing and commissioning sit with nbn and its Delivery Partners. KZ COM builds the developer-side infrastructure and records.
Tell us who is engaging the work and what your specification requires, and KZ COM will confirm its part before pricing.
