Telecommunications infrastructure

MDU Infrastructure Construction

Upgrading telecommunications infrastructure in existing apartment buildings requires careful coordination between external civil works, building pathways, existing services and site access.

KZ COM provides construction capabilities relevant to multi-dwelling unit infrastructure, supporting pit-and-pipe, lead-in conduits, pathway construction and associated reinstatement in complex building environments.

Scope

Construction scope on MDU projects

Scoped to the agreed work package. Responsibilities, access arrangements and interfaces with other parties are confirmed with the principal contractor before pricing.

  • External civil infrastructure

External works can include excavation and trenching, pit installation or modification, conduit construction, lead-in pathways and service exposure.

Works are coordinated around the issued design, existing assets, local access requirements and reinstatement obligations.

  • Building pathways and common areas

MDU construction may involve shared building entries, basements, risers, corridors and common areas where access, limited space and existing services influence construction planning.

Where included in an agreed work package, pathways may require conduits, cable-support systems, access arrangements and coordination of penetrations and fire-stopping requirements with appropriately qualified parties.

  • Construction in occupied buildings

Works within occupied buildings require attention to access, stakeholder communication, site presentation, resident safety and the continuity of essential building services.

Site constraints, construction interfaces and coordination requirements are identified with the principal contractor before work commences.

  • Quality and completion

Construction records, site photographs, reinstatement details and relevant as-built information support a clear handover to the principal contractor and project delivery team.

Delivery

How MDU works run

The order the work runs on site. Services are located and exposed before any machine excavation.

  1. Step 1

    Site survey

Building entries, basements, risers, common areas and existing services inspected, with constraints and interfaces recorded.

  2. Step 2

    Access and coordination

Work areas, access times, resident communication and essential services agreed with the principal contractor and the building manager.

  3. Step 3

    External civils and pathways

Pit-and-pipe, lead-ins and building pathways constructed to the issued design, with penetrations coordinated for fire-stopping.

  4. Step 4

    Reinstate and record

Surfaces made good, with photos, reinstatement details and as-built information supplied for handover.

Interfaces and records

Coordination, site constraints and handover records

What KZ COM coordinates with the other parties on the job, the constraints planned for before mobilising, and the records supplied at handover.

Delivery interfaces

Principal contractor
Work package boundaries, programme, access approvals and the format for handover records.
Building manager or owners corporation
Access times, common-property rules, keys and notice to residents.
Residents and occupants
Entries, car parks and essential building services kept usable around the works.
Fire-stopping and other trades
Penetrations through fire-rated elements, shared risers and cable-support routes.
Designer and network owner
The issued design, building pathway requirements and as-built information.

Site constraints planned for

  • Occupied units and shared entries
  • Basements, risers and limited ceiling space
  • Existing services in the ground and the building
  • Penetrations through fire-rated elements
  • Access hours and notice to residents
  • Finishes and surfaces to reinstate

Records supplied

  • Site survey findings and constraints
  • Pathway routes by level and area
  • Photos before close-in and at completion
  • Reinstatement details
  • As-built information for handover

Health, Safety & Quality

Existing asset protection

Identification and protection of existing underground services are critical considerations before excavation and pathway construction.

Occupied and live environments

Access planning, work-area separation and communication with relevant site stakeholders support controlled construction activities.

Environmental and site management

Site housekeeping, spoil handling, appropriate waste management and progressive reinstatement help minimise disruption during civil works.

Construction quality

Construction to the issued design and agreed scope, supported by relevant inspection, photographic and as-built records.
