For principal contractors and procurement teams

Health, Safety & Quality

Safe construction and quality workmanship are fundamental considerations in civil and telecommunications infrastructure delivery.

Our approach focuses on understanding existing site conditions, identifying construction risks, coordinating works around active environments and maintaining appropriate site and completion records.

Safety and quality

Four priorities on every site

The considerations that shape how civil and telecommunications works are planned and delivered, and how each is applied on site.

01

Existing asset protection

Identification and protection of existing underground services are critical considerations before excavation and pathway construction.

Before You Dig Australia (BYDA) information is reviewed, services are located and marked, and crossings are exposed by vacuum excavation or by hand before machine excavation.

02

Occupied and live environments

Access planning, work-area separation and communication with relevant site stakeholders support controlled construction activities.

Open excavations are barricaded, and footpath, driveway and building access is planned around the work. Traffic management requirements are confirmed with the principal for each site.

03

Environmental and site management

Site housekeeping, spoil handling, appropriate waste management and progressive reinstatement help minimise disruption during civil works.

Vacuum excavation slurry is held in the unit’s debris tank and disposal is agreed for the scope. Environmental and heritage requirements in the project documentation are confirmed with the principal before work starts.

04

Construction quality

Construction to the issued design and agreed scope, supported by relevant inspection, photographic and as-built records.

Depths, pit levels, conduit continuity and surface finish are checked during and at the end of the work.

Before mobilisation

Planning the work

Site rules, high-risk work and permits are settled with the principal contractor before the crew arrives.

01

Safe work planning

Activities, hazards and controls reviewed for each site before mobilisation, against the agreed scope and the principal’s site rules.

02

Site-specific SWMS

Where the scope includes high-risk construction work, such as trenching, work near underground services or beside traffic, the Safe Work Method Statement is reviewed with the crew before work starts.

03

Permits and inductions

Site inductions and any road-opening, traffic or access permits confirmed with the principal for each site, with responsibility for each agreed before mobilisation.

Quality

Inspection, reinstatement and records

Checks during and at the end of the work, reinstatement matched to the surrounding surface, and records captured as the work goes in rather than reconstructed afterwards.

Inspection points

Depths, pit levels, conduit continuity and surface finish checked during and at the end of the work.

Reinstatement quality

Surfaces reinstated to match the surrounding material, level and finish, to the asset owner’s or council’s requirements for the site.

Handover records

Depths, routes, pit positions and photos captured as the work goes in, for the as-built package.

Excavation interfaces

Where a route crosses water, gas, power or telecommunications assets, the crossing is exposed by vacuum excavation or by hand before the trench is opened around it.

Records supplied at handover

  • Depths, routes and pit positions
  • Photos taken as the work goes in and at completion
  • Pathway proving results, where pathways are in scope
  • Splice records, where jointing is in scope
  • As-built information in the format the project asks for

Documentation

Prequalification and subcontractor onboarding

Send your process and KZ COM works to it. Documents are supplied in the format your onboarding asks for, for the scope being priced.

  1. Step 1

    Send your requirements

Your prequalification questionnaire, onboarding checklist, site rules and induction requirements.

  2. Step 2

    Documents confirmed

KZ COM confirms the documents it can supply for the proposed scope, and the format.

  3. Step 3

    Site-specific planning

SWMS, inductions and permits reviewed for the site before mobilisation.

Information for your assessment

The items principal contractors usually request when assessing a subcontractor. Tell us what your process requires and KZ COM will confirm what it can provide for the scope.

  • Company and legal details
  • Insurance certificates of currency
  • Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS) for the proposed scope
  • Plant details, operator licences and crew competencies
  • ACMA cabling registrations, where cabling is in scope
  • Network-specific accreditations, where the project requires them
  • Relevant project experience

Credentials

Licences and accreditations

Current details are supplied with each prequalification or tender submission, for the scope being priced.

Ask for the licence, insurance and accreditation details your assessment requires. KZ COM supplies them with the prequalification or tender submission.
