Telecommunications Civil Construction

Telecommunications networks depend on civil infrastructure that is properly constructed, protected and accessible for installation and future maintenance.

KZ COM supports telecommunications construction through trenching, service exposure, pit-and-pipe installation, conduit pathways, lead-ins and reinstatement.

Compact excavator opening a trench along a fence line, with a bundle of orange conduits laid out alongside it.
Where it fits
The civil works every telecommunications pathway sits in, from set-out to reinstatement.
Typically engaged by
Principal contractors, builders, developers and network delivery contractors.

Scope

What the scope covers

Project requirements are assessed against issued construction documentation, existing utilities, access conditions and the agreed scope of works.

  • Trenching and excavation

Trenching in verges, footpaths, driveways and roads, with spoil managed and the excavation kept safe and tidy while it’s open.

  • Service exposure

Known services and crossings exposed by vacuum excavation or by hand before machine excavation around them.

  • Pit-and-pipe installation

New pits installed, connected and set to level, and damaged or undersized pits replaced on existing routes.

  • Conduit pathways and lead-ins

Conduit laid, jointed and bedded to the design, with sweeps formed to suit the cable to follow and lead-ins run to the building entry point.

  • Reinstatement

Backfill, compaction and surface reinstatement as part of the same scope.

Delivery

On site, in order

The order the work runs on site. Services are located and exposed before any machine excavation.

  1. Step 1

    Set-out

Route, pit positions and depths marked out from the design and locate information.

  2. Step 2

    Expose crossings

Known services potholed, by vacuum excavation where appropriate, before machine excavation.

  3. Step 3

    Excavate and install

Trench opened, bedding prepared, conduit laid and jointed, pits installed.

  4. Step 4

    Backfill and reinstate

Backfilled and compacted in layers, surface reinstated to match.

Health, safety & quality

Safety and quality on this scope

The controls and checks that matter most on this work.

Health, Safety & Quality

Underground services

Before You Dig Australia (BYDA) information reviewed, services located and marked, and crossings exposed by vacuum excavation or by hand before machine excavation.

Site-specific SWMS

Where the scope includes high-risk construction work, such as trenching, work near underground services or beside traffic, the Safe Work Method Statement is reviewed with the crew before work starts.

Inspection points

Depths, pit levels, conduit continuity and surface finish checked during and at the end of the work.

Handover records

Depths, routes, pit positions and photos captured as the work goes in, for the as-built package.

For estimators

Information needed to price it

  • Route length and surface types: grass, concrete, asphalt, pavers
  • Number and type of pits
  • Conduit size and quantity from the design
  • Access, traffic and working-hours constraints
  • The reinstatement specification required by council or the asset owner

Scope and responsibilities

  • Known crossings are exposed by vacuum excavation or by hand before the trench is opened around them.
  • Reinstatement is priced with the civil works, so the job closes out without another contractor.

Tell us who is engaging the work and what your specification requires, and KZ COM will confirm its part before pricing.
